Operazione Mato Grosso

“Operazione Mato Grosso” is a youth volunteer movement that started in 1967. Thanks to the free work of thousands of Italian youths, O.M.G. is active in Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Brazil supporting about one hundred missions. To the youths who belong to this movement, working for free to help the poor in their leisure time (when they are not studying or working) is a constructive and educational way to keep themselves busy and develop a sense of service towards others through manual work. In the province of Verona, Northern Italy, four groups of volunteers are currently active who, in exchange for donations for the missions, do manual work such as emptying out premises, whitewashing, house moving, yard work, scrap iron collection, painting railings and shutters, and sundry manual work.
