Underscoring the importance that the energy sector has for Italy and all of the EU, the Economic Development Ministry representative, Tiziana Vecchio, illustrated Law 84 on the legal aspects of assistance to the countries of south-eastern Europe with which two projects had been helped in Serbian free trade zones in Krusevac and Novi Sad.

The aim of Law 84, Vecchio said, is to foster stability and reconstruction in Balkan countries in the transition period towards EU membership, and is an initiative by the Italian government to foster know-how exchange, joint investment and other forms of economic cooperation between Italian companies and those in Serbia, Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro.

Representatives from the Florence, Trieste, and Milan chambers of commerce were in attendance at the Belgrade meeting, as well as representatives of the business and manufacturing spheres of the four Balkan countries. Coordinating the Italian presence was the Belgrade offices of the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade (ICE). (ANSAmed).
