Calciosociale (Social Soccer Club)

Calciosociale was established in 2005 as a non-profit amateur soccer club. For over 10 years, it has been working with youths at high risk of deviance, by offering educational and pedagogical activities that engage kids and their families in every way.

The principles and values promoted by Calciosociale are expressed through soccer, the game being a metaphor for life itself: in this way, we promote the values of openness, respect for diversity, appropriate personal growth, and a healthy relation with society.

We are working so that children, teenagers, and adults can recover the pleasure of honesty and become positive examples for the community to develop properly.

Each initiative has a purely pedagogical purpose, with a high quality and psychotherapeutic value: the focus is on the abilities and not on the impairments of subjects who are labeled as problematic. Sports activities also provide the opportunity to promote cultural and “spiritual” events that can jump-start our collective conscience to deal with the social emergencies in Italy.

In 2009, thanks to the hard work of volunteers, institutions, businesses, and individual citizens, the “Valentina Venanzi Campo dei Miracoli” (Field of Miracles) was established, a sports center that is open to all the inhabitants of Corviale, a neighborhood in the South-West suburbs of Rome.

In 2012, the Calciosociale sports club was invited to the European Parliament in Brussels, to talk about their pioneering integration project, with the aim of exporting this initiative to all European capital cities.

To date, the Calciosociale initiatives can be found: in Rome, in the Corviale neighborhood; in the Region of Tuscany, in the towns of Montevarchi and Empoli; in Neapols, in the Scampia neighborhood; in the Region of Sardinia, in the town of Quartu S.Elena; in the Region of Abruzzo, in the town of Carsoli.

Each year, twinnings and summer camps are organized to share the Calciosociale experience.
