\u201cIt is, therefore, of paramount importance<\/strong> to understand what afflicts our people, especially our youths, and to try to feel their needs and aspirations with empathy,\u201d Hasina said in her message.<\/p>\n

The premier said they continue<\/strong> to be inspired by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who firmly believed in democratic rights and social justice as the cornerstone for building a peaceful world.<\/p>\n

In the days to come<\/strong>, the prime minister said, Bangladesh shall continue to remain on the side of any initiative to promoting peace as a fundamental premise for our pursuit of sustainable development in the post-2015 scenario.
\n\u201cOur enduring commitment to global peace has been best exemplified through the \u2018People\u2019s Empowerment and Development\u2019 model that I proposed to the UN in 2011, leading to its adoption by a consensus by the comity of nations last year.\u201d<\/p>\n

The premier reaffirmed<\/strong>, on behalf of the government and the people of Bangladesh, her unwavering commitment to peace and security across the globe. \u201cThis is indeed an occasion to renew and redeem our pledge to ensure a stable and peaceful world, as envisioned by the UN Charter.\u201d\u00a0In an increasingly inter-connected world, Sheikh Hasina said, the absence of peace anywhere is a threat to peace allover.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeace is, however, not guaranteed by the absence of wars or conflicts<\/strong> alone. In recent times, we\u2019ve seen mass social unrests in many parts of the world and have witnessed the ugly face of fratricidal conflicts that have left many innocent people maimed, scarred and displaced from their homes.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina<\/strong> on Friday said Bangladesh will continue to contribute actively to international peace by advocating for the renunciation of the use of force and for universal and complete disarmament as enshrined in the Constitution.<\/p>\n

\u201cA democratic, inclusive and participatory environment<\/strong> is absolutely critical for peace to prevail in any society,\u201d she said in a message on the occasion of International Day of Peace.
At the same time, Hasina said, there needs to be sustained investment in peace, tolerance and harmony by promoting quality and transformative education and a sound cultural orientation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI, therefore, find the theme \u2013 \u2018Education for Peace\u2019<\/strong> \u2013 to be of utmost relevance for the observance of this year\u2019s International Day of Peace.\u201d
