Newsletter Editorial 23-2026

United World Week, Igino Giordani, Integral Ecology, and Africa

It seemed only right to begin our May 2026 newsletter with the story of United World Week, which just recently took place between 1 and 7 May. A global drive for good, we saw countless people promoting events and initiatives from around the world to encourage dialogue, unity, and peace. In our article we get down to the details and talk about some of the events organised during this week that was simply bursting with enthusiasm and hope.

In another article we take a look at an extraordinary event that will be taking place from 18 to 20 September in Castel Gandolfo, Italy. The EcoOne meeting will explore the kind of integral ecology proposed by Pope Francis in the Laudato Si’ encyclical. Stefania Papa – head of EcoOne, the network that organises the event – lends her insight to help us tell the story of the EcoOne Meeting in detail.

A book that immediately left its mark on us is Fraternity and Prophecy, by Stefano Zaffino. It tells the story of Igino Giordani, who co-founded the Focolare Movement, along with Chiara Lubich. The author draws a line between this important figure and Pope Francis, as the book’s subtitle reveals: ‘Igino Giordani’s philosophy in the wake of the Fratelli Tutti encyclical’. We decided to meet with Zaffino to discuss.

We close the May 2026 newsletter by shining a spotlight on Paolo Balduzzi’s insightful article entitled ‘Operation Africa’. He delves into the project of the same name, as well as the emotional and extraordinary story behind it. A story that began sixty years ago, and brought together the Bangoua tribe from Cameroon and young people from around the world. The ‘story is told in instalments, progressively uncovering a revolution that still calls us today.’
