The global event The Economy of Francesco 2021, this coming October 2, is drawing near. In view of the meeting with Pope Francis in Assisi in the autumn of 2022, this is a second appointment for young entrepreneurs, economists and changemakers from the five continents, who will meet contemporaneously to share pathways and create partnerships. As of now, there are over 30 cities worldwide that will host an EoF event.

The regional activities will culminate in a global online event, linked from the Monte Frumentario in Assisi and streamed live on EoF’s YouTube channel.

“More than two years after the EoF was launched, the program for the October event will focus on gathering the “fruits” – the first harvest – of the Economy of Francesco from around the world. Two years ago, the EoF was just an announcement, today it is a reality” the organizers stated. It will be a narration of the life of EoF following the footsteps of Francis of Assisi and the first Franciscans and expressed in some of its main aspects, through the gaze, words and commitment of young people. Poverty, economy, work, ecology, and enterprise are the main themes of the program enriched by the language of poetry and spirituality because – echoing the words of Pope Francis – “it is impossible to engage in great affairs only from a theoretical or individual perspective without a spirit that animates you, without certain inner motivations that give meaning, and without a sense of belonging and rootedness that gives breadth to personal and community action.”

The presence of some internationally known personalities, with whom young people have built fruitful dialogues in recent months, has been confirmed. Among others are: Vandana Shiva, Jennifer Nedelsky, Partha Dasgupta, Sabina Alkire and Jeffrey Sachs, who will be present in Assisi. Also expected is the contribution of the world famous scientist Stefano Mancuso, the director of the Laboratory of Plant Neurobiology in Florence and, according to the New Yorker, is among the World Changers of the planet.

Lastly, there is a great expectation for the words that Pope Francis, through a video message, will address to the young people of EoF in its second year of activity.
