Diverse Stories, United in Their Commitment to the Common Good

Stories of people who try every day to be a light in the world, to make a difference, to feed hope, and to build a better future. Often they stand together, teaming up from disparate places around the world, actively inhabiting distant lands, joining hands to spread messages of peace and unity.

The first of these stories is that of Marcoluigi Corsi, the UNICEF representative in Lebanon. He tells of the wounds that the world is suffering, but also of the resilience of the individuals – and of humanity – surviving this brutality. Marcoluigi told us his story, as well as the story of UNICEF, in a candid interview.

The second actually consists of three stories: one from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, one from Kenya, and one from Colombia. Three stories of active citizenship, three projects created to make a tangible, positive difference in society – especially in its most crucial and vulnerable corners. All three stories illustrate the energy that goes into serving the common good, which begins with helping the most vulnerable among us. We take a deep dive into the three projects in our article.

The story of Città Nuova is remarkable. The Focolare Movement’s journal, which has always been devoted to dialogue, exchange, and unity, is turning 70 this year. For the occasion, we met with the editor, Giulio Meazzini, who recounted the beautiful story of Città Nuova in an interview.

The story of Operation Africa is extraordinary: a true miracle, such that it has become known as ‘the miracle in the forest’. The story dates back to 1969, when the ancient Cameroonian population of the Bangwa came into contact with young people from the Focolare Movement. It is a story that has inspired a lot of people to jump into action, and it teaches a lesson we must remember still today – all of us.

The story of the Economy of Communion (EdC) is well established, and they are also celebrating an important anniversary this year: 35 years since it was founded. In honour of the occasion, communities, entrepreneurs, executives, and young people from all across Latin America came together in Argentina to celebrate this birthday. In doing so, the EdC reasserted its commitment to creating an economy centred around relationships and communion. We tell the whole story in our article.

Enjoy.
