The “Together for a New Africa” (T4NA) trains young African leaders to transform their communities through knowledge, cooperation, and a shared vision of a fairer, united, and sustainable continent.

The Together for a New Africa (T4NA) project supports the training of young African leaders by encouraging study, research and concrete action in their communities. One of its key phrases is Learn and Grow to Overcome Limits, and its areas of focus include economy, work, research, and education, the latter being fundamental for social transformation and overcoming structural limits.

T4NA was established in 2014 and has involved the youth and institutions with the goal – as stated on its website www.togetherforanewafrica.org – of providing young African leaders with the tools to tackle the challenges of their communities and shape the future of their continent through collective leadership (co – leadership), good governance, a culture of unity and the revival of African wisdom known as “Ubuntu”.

The project is supported by AFRESH, an initiative co-financed by the European Union, which embodies the ideal of equality and an important goal: the partners’ ambition to redefine relations between Europe and Africa in a horizontal rather than vertical perspective. What does this mean? Vertical refers to the historical colonial framework: one party symbolically higher, hegemonic, and another lower, subordinate. In contrast, horizontal envisions a new, equal relationship, without any dominant party.

AFR.E.S.H considers it essential for both continents to collaborate to address the global challenges of the present and future: migrations, climate change, inequalities and conflicts between countries. For this reason, it pays particular attention to the concept of exchange (giving and receiving) and cultural collaboration between Africa and Europe.

The T4NA Summer Schools

T4NA has already organized two significant Summer Schools in 2023 and 2024. In the first, 140 young leaders from 14 African countries, united by the same vision of transformative leadership, came together online for five days under the theme “Becoming Architects of Change”. They strengthened community ties and defined strategies to drive change on the continent.

The following year, in collaboration between AFR.E.S.H and T4NA, the Summer School took place in a hybrid format, marking an important step in training the new generation of leaders in Africa.

Six countries from the AFR.E.S.H consortium and nine other African nations that had already participated in the 2023 Summer School gathered. The focus was on the theme “Togetherness: Building Teams and Leaders for a New Africa,” aimed at strengthening leadership attitudes and civic participation through a combination of local training activities and international exchanges.

Looking Ahead to Nairobi in 2025

Together for a New Africa (T4NA) will be present in Nairobi from November 7 to 12, 2025, for the initiative “Cities, Communities, Care. Youth in Action for Sustaining Peace,” an event organized for the 80th anniversary of the United Nations. In a time of deep crises, the aim is to create space for dialogue, reflection, and concrete proposals in synergy with the UN agencies present in Nairobi and other institutional partners.

The international event targets mayors, administrators, civil and religious leaders, citizens, researchers and anyone engaged in promoting peace, justice, and care for territories. Participants in the Together for a New Africa program will bring experiences, ideas and visions for a sustainable future. The journey will culminate in a global event from November 10 to 12, 2025.

The work of AFR.E.S.H. and T4NA is entirely focused on the values of peace, brotherhood among people and a united world. It is important, therefore, for the United World Project to highlight this valuable activity during the United World Week 2025.
